THE CAR

1990 Vauxhall Nova GTE

Before

The car began its career in 2000 when Nick bought a lightly rolled Nova GTE from a friend who had bought it to repair but never got round to it. Nick installed it in the workshop and stripped every single nut, bolt, panel, wiring loom and interior trim from it to a bare shell. He even removed all the sound deadening from the floor panels and a majority of the paint and sealer. Next, all the panels and chassis were inspected for corrosion and replaced as necessary. A plating kit was welded in to strengthen all the high stress points of the steering and suspension along with some pickup points for the sump guard.

The seat fixings, cage, and various brackets and fixings were added before the whole thing was refinished in 2k paint.

The cars colour scheme and graphic diamonds and pinstripes were all painted, the wiring looms re worked and modified, and then the car was rebuilt with the original GTE engine, gearbox, brakes, steering and trims.

The suspension was replaced by a competition adjustable system and all the required elements as needed for safety.

The car made its debut at Abingdon in the late spring of 2002 and actually finished its first event in one piece though not particularly very competitively. Though an engine has never finished development, many modifications and general developments/changes have been made to date.
