HISTORY ADC Rallysport is a team of like minded enthusiastic people who like nothing better in their spare time than spending lots of hard earned £ on their love of speed and petrol. The chosen activity is Tarmac rallying at National B level.
The chosen steed is a 1989 Vauxhall Nova GTE,
The chosen area is the South of England within the area of the Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs. Abbr ACSMC.
Their goal is to have as much fun as possible with their fireproof clothes on!! The driver is Nick who started his obsession in the 1980s whilst competing successfully in Auto test and pre plot road rally with cars such as Mk1 and Mk2 Escort, Chrysler Avenger, Talbot Sunbeam and eventually a virtually indestructible Mk1 Vauxhall Astra. Using a handful of very capable navigators who he insists are all still very much alive, sane and on speaking terms. 2000. At the turn of the century, he decided after a few very near misses in road rally that it was probably time to start the more demanding and definitely more costly form of rally. Namely tarmac stage. Working from the well equipped workshop that was formerly the business premises of Wessex Rally Cars where, as a partner Nick did all the welding, fabrication and bodywork, he started work on the car for the discipline. Having had lots of success with the Astra, Nick decided that a good option would be the slightly smaller Nova as quite a bit of development had already been done in past years since it was used in the World Rally series, and a lot of parts were readily available to make it competition ready. A slightly second hand GTE was acquired and the journey began with Nick’s best friend Richard along side. 2002. The car was finished and was entered into its first competition and finished. Moderate success was achieved and much development over the next three years. 2005. Richard had financial restraints and announced his retirement from the hot seat. Following a chance conversation with Carrie, a colleague, good friend and founder of Newbury Car Club, Nick persuaded cajoled and part bullied her into agreeing to be the next and current navigator co-driver. A crash course was made into rally navigation and licence applied for. Less than four weeks later, Carrie was sitting in the hot seat on the start line of her very first event. 2006. Though the cars handling characteristics had been developed and refined, the weak link was really the engine which had now changed from the original injected 1.6 GTE engine to a smaller and more competitive class 1.4 carburettor type but time after time there was disappointment born of mechanical failure. 2007. Following the spate of mechanical failures, the crew although working well as a partnership were beginning to feel somewhat despondent about life until along came Dave, a successful businessman with a fleet of Prestige cars and drivers supplying a private hire services to the corporate customer, calling the business ADC EXECUTIVE CARS. Dave has a real passion for motor sport and wanted to be involved with a local amateur team so was invited to an event to meet the team. Impressed with the commitment, friendly demeanour and welcoming manner of Nick and Carrie, Dave decided that he would like to help in any way he could with a more hands on approach. Nick and Carrie decided that the way forward was to enlist the help of like minded enthusiastic people to further develop the partnership, following a meeting, they were delighted to announce the appointment of Dave as team manager and the new Team of ADC Rallysport was initiated. A regular and keen visitor to the workshop was a “hoodie” called Neil. Though a woodworker by trade, he was fairly intimate with the right side of a spanner and was very capable in the respect of having modified his own supercharged Peugeot 106 for speed trials. Keen to learn from Nick about the workings of the Nova, he was duly appointed as crew chief and chief mechanic to the team on the rallies. A number of people had come along to support the team and help in service, but one in particular had been noticed to be keen to learn, dedicated and dependable. Martin was invited to join us for the last event of the year at Smeatharpe in Devon as mechanic to Neil. At last, much needed success for the crew as they rewarded the new team with third in class and forty ninth overall to finish the season on a high note and give Carrie her first and well deserved trophy. So that‘s the past, what about the future? Well you‘re now looking at it. 2008 on... WATCH THIS SPACE Design by Sweep Design 2008 |
